One day this week (Oct 2024), I was talking to Dad and he had to hang up to pay attention to the road!
It has been 23 months since we received a formal medical diagnosis of dementia.
Dad has not driven a car or bus, or flown an airplane, these past 2 years. In his mind, he is doing all of these things. And he is happy.
We’re on video chat and Dad is in the front passenger seat of the car. 🚙
Conversation this day:
Me – Hi Dad!
Dad – Hello Kelley June.
Me – It looks like you’re having a good day.
Dad – Oh yes, we are.
Me – You’re looking cool in your sunglasses. 😎
Dad – Well, thank you.
Me – Did you see all the kids at the Halloween parade today?
Dad – Yes, they looked great. I need to get off the phone though and pay attention to the road.
Me – Oh, are you driving?
Dad – Yes. (With a bit of an attitude in his voice like I couldn’t see the obvious.)
Me – Okay. Love you Dad.
Dad – Love you too.
That’s my Dad. Bless him.
