Mom and Dad sing to me

One day last week (Oct 2024), Mom and Dad sang Happy Birthday to me. Dad didn’t miss a word. Every year of my life. 😊

It has been 23 months since we received a formal medical diagnosis of dementia.

After Dad’s seizure and mini-stroke two weeks ago, this was a true blessing for me. Dad is okay, as much as he can be. He is happy, as he has been without fail throughout his life. My brother expressed it so perfectly last week, “That dude is unstoppable.”

While I know that isn’t literally true, I also know Dad is consistently ready to face the day. Get up, clean up, get ready, and make a plan. Every day of his life. He’s still thinking and planning and busy and moving forward.

Common phrases, today and always, from Dad:

– Let’s go!

– What time do we need to be there?

– Is everybody ready?

– Should we pick up some extra ice?

– Does everyone know where to meet?

– We don’t want to be late!

A man with a plan, caring about others, and enjoying life.

Thanks for all the good wishes for Dad and our family. It helps. (Photo of me and Dad from my birthday many years ago.)
