The ability to give way.
A leader plans and coaches, defines strategy, and provides clarity and decisions based on known facts and past experience. It’s important to know when to yield and change direction based on new information. New input provides new perspective and opportunities.
Same principles apply at home. Driving after a meeting yesterday, I was greeted by a surprise snowstorm that was quick and left a dusting on nature. I passed a park that caught my eye. Yielding to the new opportunity, I changed my plan, pulled over, and took a walk to enjoy the beauty and peace of an empty park while reflecting on this incredible last week of my CIO role at ESA. By nightfall, the snow was gone so I was happy I didn’t miss the opportunity.
